The Tom Luther Quintet began its life in 2009 under the name “Agharta”(yanked from a mythological underworld and Miles Davis album). From the start it has been a vehicle for my own compositions, and has also delved into jazz arrangements of other kinds of music( David Bowie, Mahler, and others). Its current book is entirely original works, and features some of Maine’s best musicians and improvisers: Mike Whitehead: Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Gideon Forbes: Tenor Saxophone, Noah Fishman: Bass, Jacob Forbes: Drums, and Tom Luther: Pianist/Composer.
