Maine  Microcinema is a cinema/screening series dedicated to promoting local and regional video and filmmaking in the Pine Tree State.  MMc is produced by Craig Saddlemire and Colin Kelley.  They will be hosting  a microcinema night at Guthries the last Thursday of every other month.    This month will feature experimental and documentary shorts. 

 

 


On Thursday, December 20th, 2012, MMC will be presenting an eclectic mix of short movies that include muscle cars, radical socialist nuns, rap music, orangutans, and more! Videomakers will be available for a Q&A following the screenings.

Muscle Car (3 minutes, David Meikeljohn)

A dance-fueled music video for the song “Muscle Car” by Portland-based hip hop artist Sontiago, featuring Therese Workman. Like West Side Story meets Breakin’, this video follows two rival gangs who settle their disputes with dance moves as their weapons. Shot entirely in Maine with a cast of friends and family, “Muscle Car” is a testament to the power of solidarity in the face of mega punkasses.

The Peloton Project: Movie Trailer (3 minutes, Ramsey Tripp)

The Peloton Project looks at cancer survivorship through the lives of 40 cyclist on a 2500 mile journey from Calgary, Alberta to Lewiston Maine. The Riders had just 10 days to complete the trip. An inspiring film about celebrating life.

 Les Soeurs Grise (30 minutes, Mary T. Rice-DeFosse)

A history of the the radical women who started their own free healthcare facility in Lewiston to serve the poor.

 Yayasan Palung: Saving the people to save the forest (12 minutes, Rob Little)

This video explores the destruction of the rainforest and the difficulties that Bornean people face not only in surviving, but in protecting the forest they so dearly love.
