The Bald Hill Boys are Ben DeTroy on mandolin, Chris Ricardi on guitar, Mike Conant on fiddle/banjo, and Tim Clough on standup bass. All hail from New Gloucester with the exception of Tim, who lives in Auburn. As Ben would say, “Some of us live on Bald Hill; the others wish they did”. The ‘boys’ are not boys any longer in the sense of age, but aspire to give homage to Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass and his bluegrass ‘boys’. They don’t stick to the traditional, however and have been known to pull out a Jimi Hendricks or Led Zeppelin tune on occasion. Other big influences are The Dead, The Band, Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman, The Seldom Scene, and Hank Williams.
